Construction began today on a 13000 square foot theater in southwest Lubbock. Lindsey Theatres Inc and Preston Smith back the project with a $100000 investment for building furnishings and equipment. Tatum Construction Co is general contractor with a late summer completion target.

Stanton officers hunt four escapees from the Big Spring State hospital after they fled Ward 7 on Saturday night. One suspect, Juan Rodriguez, shot Sheriff Fletcher Stark last summer. Gov. John Connally appointed Wayne Gibbens a three term Texas House member to head the new Texas liaison office in Washington. Reporter Held After Manhunt in Anson Texas
ANSON Tex AP Frank Ransenetti Monday Times reporter was charged with carrying a prohibited weapon after a manhunt in this area about 70 miles southwest of Wichita Falls. He was captured after his car wrecked. The search began when Mrs Jackie Huber could not locate her son Don 10 who had been hunting with his air gun. Don later told authorities a man ordered him into a vehicle with threats and they drove for about a half hour before the man returned him home.

Cold Front Dips South as Texas Sees Cool Night
Cold air moves from the Great Lakes through Ohio to Texas with subzero temps in northern states and cool readings in the south. In Texas the front crosses Texarkana to Waco and Del Rio by noon. Sisters die saving younger siblings in NS house fire

Crimp operation hits Viet Cong fortifications near Saigon
In Vietnam the U.S. led forces breached Viet Cong defenses on the edge of the Iron Triangle 25 miles northwest of Saigon amid Operation Crimp. A large Viet Cong weapons cache was found with 47 weapons and 114 grenades. Allied casualties were light and air strikes continued with 281 missions reported.
