GRID STAR Ex Tahokan Dies In Viet War Action
Caryon Special Captain Donald R Blair 27 known locally as West Texas State flashiest halfback and Tahoka star was killed Saturday in a Viet Cong ambush 50 miles from Saigon. Military sources say he was in a truck convoy near Long Hai when attacked. Blair, Advisory Team No. 89 member, had been in country seven months and was due home in June. He leaves a wife and two children in Tahoka. Funeral arrangements at Lagrone Chapel. Blair starred in football at Tahoka High and West Texas State, earning a four year football scholarship. he graduated in 1956. His kidney injury sidelined him his senior year but he still served after commissioning as a second lieutenant in 1960.

Services were held at the Kernathy Abernathy church for Marine Cpl. Ray mond Stanley Joy Jr. 23 of Abernathy killed in Vietnam. A choir sang as relatives filled pews while ministers said he sacrificed his life for freedom. Burial with military rites scheduled at Adams Cemetery near Graham at 5 p.m. under Chambers Funeral Home. Joy was part of the Third Marine Division First Special Forces Reconnaissance Group and was killed December 16.
