A 1972 hotel robbery at a Manhattan luxury site unfolded with a band of masked thieves seizing control of the lobby and strongroom. Guards and staff were rounded up as robbers hampered the alarm and escaped with undisclosed loot after shutting down security procedures.
Police raided three Manhattan hotels and arrested five suspects linked to the New Year’s jewel heist at the Pierre. About $250,000 in jewels were recovered and bonds set for one defendant while others were held without bail. The case involved four men posing as guests who robbed 47 safety boxes before fleeing in a limousine.
