President Ford appointed Vice President Nelson A Rockefeller to chair an eight member commission to probe charges of illegal domestic spying by the CIA. The panel includes Ronald Reagan and former Kennedy and Johnson cabinet officials. It must report by March 4 and will be sent to Congress before public release.
Police continued Sunday to probe the murder of 3 year old Victor Tucker of 6203 W 9th St. He was found shot to death in a bedroom by his brother after Tucker’s service station closed Friday night. Autopsy ruled homicide. a .38 caliber bullet struck him in the left cheek. A .25 caliber pistol and a cashbox lay at his feet in a blood pool. The house was ransacked and a gunny sack with a clock was found near the back door. Investigators believe the killer surprised Tucker during burglary and fled. A fresh L cut and broken back door glass were noted. A stainless steel watch was found in the back yard. Tucker had previously thwarted a robbery at his service station. Parallel FBI/CIA commission coverage appears in the same issue, with names such as C. Douglas Dillon and Lyman Lemnitzer mentioned.
Two armed men robbed a tourist bus return from a show in San Juan Puerto Rico, taking cash from 45 passengers. Police released few details and said the suspects fled with an unspecified sum.
A British freighter sank after hitting the Tasman Bridge over the Derwent River in Hobart Tasmania. At least six dead, eight crewmen missing, 34 of 42 crew rescued. The Lake Hiawarra struck a bridge pylon, 240 feet of bridge collapsed, lifeboat sank, and survivors were rushed to Royal Hobart Hospital.

In Houston Astros pitcher Don Wilson and his wife and daughter were hospitalized after carbon monoxide poisoning at their home. In Brattleboro Vermont ski hopeful Jeff Wright died from a fatal head injury during a practice jump. Wright, 22, tipped over and struck his head at the 70 meter hill.
South Vietnamese defenders reported holding Phuoc Binh after a fourth day of fierce North Vietnamese assaults. The Saigon command said artillery and rockets pummeled the city while tanks breached southern defenses and rebels attacked Cambodian forces near Phnom Penh. Civilian casualties rose as the town, a key border outpost, remained isolated amid vague, sometimes conflicting independent reports.
Two people, Freddy C. McAnear and Gedda McAnear of Midland, were treated for injuries after a twin engine plane struck a high voltage power line near the Midland Air Terminal. Pilot F T Levens and Estillee were not seriously hurt. Power outages were reported in Midland and as far as Pecos Odessa. The crash occurred at 1 08 p.m. as the aircraft approached the runway. investigation into the cause continues.
