A Santa Fe passenger train struck and killed 54 year old Jesse Bill Riney at the intersection of U S 84 and FM 179 two miles northwest of Hale Center. The train, traveling about 75 mph from Clovis to Houston, ripped the auto in half and displaced parts along the track. The Planning Commission sets Jan 19 for a special session on a new 50th Street zoning plan and tabled C-2A requests near E Broadway, Guava Ave, and 50th St. The board approved C-2 local retail at Slide Rd and 31st St and C-2A at 50th St and Canton Ave. Arnold Maeker, stepping from chair to present Buckner's, said the plan includes a children's home, facilities for the aged and unwed mothers, offices, a central kitchen, a maintenance building and an all purpose building. Future residential buffering is required along abutting streets. The commission will also discuss future commercial zoning along the loop but priority remains care facilities expansion.
