A calm, average looking man robbed Cable Drive-In Grocery at 3602 Ave A, taking almost $200 while two accomplices watched outside. Coble, 54, and his wife were alone. the bandit, 27, 150 160 pounds, wore a tweed jacket and khaki pants, warned of a loaded gun and instructed not to move. The incident followed a Miss Lubbock finals buildup and related pageantry at Municipal Auditorium.

Testimony Under Way In Helmus Murder Trial
The murder trial of 19 year old Airman Richard A. Helmus continued with a 12th juror chosen after two days of questioning. Prosecution witnesses were slated to resume testimony at 1 a.m. in Second District Court with Judge Victor H. Lindsey presiding. The night session began at 7 p.m. after the final juror was seated around 4:15 p.m. No defense witnesses appeared. The state says Helmus beat his 17 month old son Jeffrey Alan to death at Reese AFB Hospital last June 16. The trial began Monday and drew about abott spectators.
