After 31 Years Veteran Postal Worker Retires

ALAVA NCH-JOURNAL STAFF WRITER ALTER T. CLARK assistant postmaster of the Lubbock Post Office will retire Monday after 31 years and six months in the postal service all in Lubbock. He retires as the last of the old timers who were in the post office before it became a metropolitan center. Clark began work Sept 1 1923. The office has grown from a second class post office with seven employees receipts under 40000 a year to a modern operation with 258 employees and 1100000 in receipts last year. He served under five postmasters three Democrats Deering M M Brown Amos Howard and two Republicans Rankin and Johns L al. The postal office has moved three times on Texas Ave and the article notes the evolution of the service.
