Libya Quake Kills Hundreds Near Al Marj

An earthquake in northeast Libya killed about 250 people near Al Marj. US Air Force Europe said Wheelus Base at Tripoli received aid requests from Libya’s prime minister. Two C 130 transports, ambulances and a field hospital were sent to the quake area.

Parks Measure and Speed Limit Raise Approved by House

The House approved a Parks and Wildlife Commission reform 91 to 48, merging the nine member Game and Fish and six member Parks boards into a three member panel. It also sent to the Senate a bill letting the Highway Department raise speed limits to 70 mph for autos and 60 mph for trucks, by a 133 to 4 vote. The week’s House total reached 16 bills passed while the Senate adjourned without action.

Plainview girl dies in area car wreck in heavy snow

Shirley Jean Otte, 10, of Plainview, was killed when her car collided head on with another vehicle about 3:45 p.m. near Orton, Lamb County.
