Final air service decisions for Lubbock far in future

A B Davis of the Lubbock chamber says CAB hearings on American and Continental proposals to serve Lubbock are lengthy and uncertain with no final hearing date set. Braniff proposal to make Lubbock an intermediate stop between Wichita Falls and Amarillo could be heard around March 15, but equipment and approvals may delay any service by a year or more.

Fat Stock Show in West Texas May Be Shelved for 1944

The Panhandle-South Plains Junior Fat Stock show appears canceled this year due to the tire and gasoline shortage. A clothing market sponsored by the Western Wholesale Market Association is being considered for next spring if industry leaders approve. Officials note hotel space in Lubbock is booked for war contracts, complicating plans but say the market could still occur if feasibility is shown.

Formal Opening of LAAF Enlisted Men's Lounge Set Tuesday

The LAAF opens two enlisted men lounges with a St Valentine’s dance on February 14 from 8 30 to 11 30 p m. Col Ralph Holmes announces the event and Mrs Wynona Tomlin chairs the LAWS contribution to the dance. The lounges feature dressing rooms a radio room a baby grand piano and a stage for performers. Guests invited include Huchettes and WACs with the LAAF Dance Band providing music.

Parish dies near Ralls after weeklong illness

Pearl H. Parish, 70, died Friday night at his Ralls home after a weeklong illness. He moved from Wise county in 1925. Survivors include his wife Maggie and a large extended family. Funeral services set for Sunday at 2:30 PM at First Methodist with burial in Balis cemetery. Marr Funeral home in charge.

Lubbock Real Estate Board Joins State and National Groups

The Lubbock real estate board was admitted to membership in both the state and national boards. The local group enters with 21 members, per secretary treasurer W. R. Faubion. J. H. Brock presides. D. L. Treadway of Dallas, VP of Southland Mortgage, was the luncheon principal speaker.

Damage Actions Filed Here Saturday

Two damage actions, including a $38,900 claim, were filed Saturday afternoon in the Second District Court before Judge Dan Blair. James D. Fawcett names Johnson Motor Freight Lines as defendant, alleging he was struck August 29 and run over by a truck. A second suit seeks $1,250 in damages against Waples Platter Co and others, alleging damage to a Rastisten’s automobile on December 27.

No. 1 Griggs Oil Test Staked Near Shallowater

The Smith-Griggs Oil company of Fort Worth has staked a new test in Lubbock County named No. 1 Griggs. Located 660 feet from the north and 660 feet from the east lines in section 44, block T, about six miles northwest of Shallowater. Coats and Foster will drill a 6,500 foot test using big rotary equipment with spudding set in the next days. O R Smith of Odessa and Fort Worth and Frank Griggs of Lubbock are partners in the venture.

Crosbyton Car Wreck Victims Improve at Home

Three Crosbyton residents injured Friday when a car driven by Arnal Claire Fowler overturned near Lubbock are reported recovering at home Saturday. Lonnie Hillin, sheriff’s son, has a fractured collarbone, while his wife and G G Lebar's wife sustained vertebral process fractures. Investigators cited a blown tire and downhill plunge as causes. Fowler had a leg cut and all were treated at West Texas hospital.
