In Los Angeles, three gunmen robbed an armored car in a market parking lot, overpowering guards and escaping with $110,000. Police described it as the largest cash robbery in LA County history, carried out with precision before about a dozen shoppers.
OSO 2 the Orbiting Solar Observatory launches from Cape Kennedy atop a Delta rocket. It reaches about 350 miles up to map the sun through an 11 year cycle with instruments including a coronagraph to simulate solar eclipses and collect atomic fingerprints of the sun and its corona.

A lawyer for Jenkins warned he may not testify, while Jenkins has put his Washington home up for sale and his wife declined to comment on plans. The committee awaits Jenkins's decision as lawmakers prepare written questions if he dodges the subpoena.

The boy's father's boss Sven Rautenberg inherited the funds, restructuring ownership and placing the boy in control of the firm through inheritance.
The Senate backed President Johnson on surplus food shipments to Egypt but rejected a veterans hospital closing order by adding a rider to an appropriations bill. Mundt sponsored the VA rider, Mansfield and others opposed the hospital shutdowns set for June 30, with votes signaling congressional anger over the plan.
