Fiery crash at Chicago airport kills 30. Apollo euphoria turns to tragedy

North Central Airlines Flight 408 from Minneapolis crashed into a hangar at O'Hare in dense drizzle. 30 people died and eight boys practicing with a drum corps survived. Victims were taken to nearby hospitals as temporary morgues were set up. The Convair 580 departed Minneapolis at 4 14 p m CST with layovers in several cities before the disaster at 8 22 p m CST.

Living costs climb to November peak as pay gains cancel

The November CPI rose four tenths of one percent erasing wage gains for 45 million workers. Purchasing power fell 0.5 percent from November 1967 as living costs climbed with shelter up seven tenths and clothing up six tenths.
