Christmas Car Fire Burns Family Gifts With Dog Saved

The Henry family found their 1961 model car a charred ruin after a wiring short in Monterey Center. They had stowed $200 worth of Christmas gifts in the trunk. firefighters could not save the vehicle but a passerby rescued the unattended dog unharmed.

Christmas Eve Services Planned by Lubbock Churches

Lubbock churches plan a candlelit carol service at First United Methodist Church with nine choirs, readings by Dr. Paul M. Bumpers, and a White Gift Parade. Reese Air Force Base Chapel offers a candlelight service and Holy Communion at 7 p.m. Episcopal St Paul’s schedules 5 30 p m and 11 30 p m services with a children’s service at 7 30 p m.

Pueblo crewmen freed after 11 months in North Korea

In Seoul the 82 crewmen from the USS Pueblo held a private prayer service in their hospital ward as they prepared for the long flight home. Admiral Rosenberg said they are in fair to good condition for travel and scheduled to fly to Miramar via Midway. Cmdr Bucher, who described beatings and harassment, visited his men and they planned another service at Kimpo before departure. Fireman Hodges’ funeral will accompany the return.

Kidnaper charges may be dropped in Mackle case

Generous Support Keeps Goodfellows Christmas Aid Strong

A large public effort funds and distributes gifts to more than 1,000 Lubbock homes. About 7,000 children will receive candy fruit nuts and toys arranged by volunteers and donors led by the Goodfellows. The Lubbock Independent Automobile Dealers Association contributed 557.50 and 42 dealers aided with cash or a car sale to benefit the cause. An equal amount is given to two city children’s homes, with a final donor list published after Christmas.
