Pueblo Crew Free After 11 Months in North Korea

All 82 crewmen of the USS Pueblo crossed the Bridge of No Return to freedom in Panmunjom after 11 months in captivity. They were to be flown home, likely by Christmas, as North Korea handed over a document UPI called “the usual garbage” and the body of the killed sailor was to follow in a Red Cross ambulance.

Kidnap Suspect Arraigned in Fort Myers Bond Set

United Press International reports 23 year old Gary Steven Krist arraigned in a Lee County hospital room Fort Myers on 500000 bond in the Barbara Mackle kidnapping case. Ruth Fisemann Schier remains at large with FBI naming her as the other suspect. Krist waived a preliminary hearing and will return to Miami with attorney services arranged.

Apollo 8 crew endures illness as moon voyage continues

Sick and short of sleep the Apollo 8 astronauts Frank Borman James Lovell and William Anders revised their schedule to sleep in shifts. Borman suffered vomiting diarrhea chills and headaches but kept ground controllers informed. Doctors warned the illness could spread though not endangering the mission as the crew pressed on toward the moon at 3174 miles per hour and broadcast a TV show from space.

Tech Youth Fatally Hurt On Campus

A Texas Tech student died in a motorcycle crash on 13th Street near Flint Avenue. Ronald James Hess, 21, of Abilene, was thrown into a tree and died at Methodist Hospital from internal injuries. Two others injured in a separate car train collision near Slaton, Joe Manuel Garza 17 and Jesus Flores Jaramillo 22, were treated at Methodist Hospital. Frank Flores 39 remained in critical condition. The train collision occurred southeast of Slaton after a car stalled on a crossing, with the engineer identified as PR Tarst of Slaton.
