Area Man Pleads Innocent in Local Homicide Case
Michael Dale Teaff, 18, of Sweetwater pleaded innocent to a negligent homicide charge in Judgedwin Roedeker's County Court No. 1. He posted $750 bond after the fatal crash on the U.S. 87 access road near 98th Street that killed a Lubbock man. Others in Roedeker court were Homer Parks for theft, Eddie Henderson for check violations, and William Kennard for driving while intoxicated with bonds set.

Four lifeboats spotted as Ori ental Monarch sinks
Canadian rescue officials said all four lifeboats from the sunken Ori ental Monarch were found with no survivors aboard. The 10,000-ton Japanese-built freighter, registered in Liberia, sank about 520 miles northwest of Victoria B C amid gale winds and heavy seas. Searches by ships and aircraft located lifeboats and a life raft but yielded no signs of the 40 crew members.
