Designer of Dietrich dress warns against wide use

Republican in Line To Succeed Herring in Texas West District

Russell Wine a 64 year old San Antonio attorney is in line for appointment as U S attorney for the Western District of Texas, backed by the Republican National Committee Jack Porter of Houston said. The present attorney Charles Herring a Democrat may resign soon and Atty Gen Herbert Brownell will back Wines appointment with a recommendation to the White House after Congress readjourns in January.

Dallas Railroad Man May Vie For Post

Alva Sanders former chairman of the Texas State Railroad board says he may run for railroad commissioner after the state owned line was leased to Southern Pacific affiliate T&NO for 10 years at 12000 dollars annually plus half profits over 54000. He notes a 1921 1962 loss of over 1 million and questions why back rent was not paid. Sanders cites 33.5 mile Palestine to Rusk line built 1909 and urges protecting taxpayers interests. He mentions egg production up 5 percent in November as a side item.

Industrial Session Slated In Abilene

Abilene December special report notes a one day conference on industrial business techniques set for January 2 by the West Texas Chamber of Commerce leaders. Presidents managers and chamber members will discuss markets transportation labor financingsite location and community development with planned outstanding speakers. This marks the first in a hoped for annual West Texas series.

Lubbock Real Estate Board Hears Luncheon Reports

The Lubbock Real Estate Board met at the Caprock Hotel to hear committee reports and discuss 1954 activities during a Friday luncheon presided over by Asher Thompson. Mrs. O. P. Harlan was inducted as a new member, with The Hublenders providing barbershop entertainment. Forty five members attended. The next meeting is set for January 8 1954 and next week’s session is canceled due to Christmas holidays.

Newest Rio Grande Bridge To Be Dedicated In International Rites

Progreso dispatch notes a $350,000 Bend bridge across the Rio Grande in Hidalgo county to be dedicated Saturday in an international ceremony. About 5,000 people expected. Speakers include Gen Carlos Real of Mexico City and Texas Land Commissioner Bascom Giles.
