Santa Land to skip Nativity Scene in Lubbock display

Lubbock Santa Land will omit its Nativity scene for the first time since opening. A Prairie Santa setup will use pieces from the 8666 Ranch. Recreation superintendent Rob Blackmore says the old figures, bought in 1947, are cracked and faded and replacement would cost 1 000 to 2 000 dollars, forcing the shift. Some church groups oppose removing the Nativity, but officials say complaints did not drive the decision. They may replace the figures later or switch to another display due to space constraints near the central Christmas Tree. See NATIVITY Page 10.
