Johnson holds talks on Viet Nam as he weighs ceasefire

President Johnson met Friday with top advisers including Lodge McNamara Goldberg and Harriman to discuss a prolonged ceasefire and halting terrorism. Lodge said military progress was good while terrorism needed stronger action and U S force decisions in the delta remained under study. New Study Slated For Legislature

USTIN The Texas Election Law Study Committee approved a 207 page subcommittee report that some members call the most restrictive voting law in the United States. Sen Don Kennard criticized early cutoff and auto reregistration while urging deputies at plants to register voters. The panel backed signatures checks at polls and placed federal and state candidates on separate ballot sections after discussion. Only nine people spoke at the public hearing including Mrs Harold Young who urged lenient vote interpretation and questioned age disclosure for female registrants.

Explosions-Ravaged Sinclair Oil Plant Near Tatum Burns Report

A large portion of Sinclair Oil Gas Products Plant No. 29, twelve miles east of Tatum, sustained considerable damage from three explosions and a fire. The center of the facility including the processing area and cycling tower were destroyed while seven men escaped injury. Evacuations were ordered within miles of the plant as overhead tanks nearby risked explosion. The multi million dollar site, built in 1959, processed raw gas into gasoline and propane. Fire was confined to the central two acres amid storage tanks for butane propane and gasoline.

Goose chase for Luci and Pat in Lubbock

Avalanche Journal reporters chased a report that Luci Johnson Nugent and her husband Pat were shopping in downtown Lubbock. Witnesses saw them lunch on chicken salad sandwiches and Coke in a store cafe before browsing the book and stationery department and disappearing with a Secret Service escort close behind.
