Salvation Army Christmas Drive Trails Last Year’s Gifts
Donations to the Salvation Army Christmas Cheer program lag about 600 dollars behind last year. Maj. Bob Hall cites delayed harvest and unemployment as causes while kettles run Nov 27 through Dec 24 at major centers. Volunteers from Shriners Lions Club and BPW assist with nine kettles. Funds support dinners for the homeless, gifts for shut ins, and toys, plus a toy shop at the Marine Corps Center. Through early December 1,200 families have been approved for aid with 10 full time workers and many volunteers handling activities. 1,271 families were helped in 1970.
