Bourke-White Top Woman Photographer Dies in New York

Margaret Bourke-White, renowned photojournalist who chronicled wars and civilizational milestones, died Friday after a 19 year battle with Parkinson's disease at a Stamford hospital. She was 67 and had been first accredited woman war photographer and first woman to fly on a bombing mission. Her work included images of Italy’s battles, Buchenwald prisoners, and leaders Gandhi Churchill Stalin. Twice married, her unions ended in divorce, notably with Erskine Caldwell. She began photography at Cornell.
