Three Die In South Plains Wrecks

Three persons died in traffic crashes across the South Plains over Saturday. Two rear-end collisions occurred in Lubbock and near Brownfield, while a one-car wreck near Muleshoe claimed Morris Wilson Lasley of Hobbs New Mexico. Redden 30 of Lubbock was hospitalized with multiple contusions after a collision on Plainview Highway. The incidents increased the area toll and were investigated by local police.

Four Killed In Alvarado Crash

Four people died and six injured in a head on collision between a car and a pickup truck six miles north of Alvarado Texas early Saturday. Victims include Roland D. English 25 and Fonzie Johnson Jr. 33 both of Alvarado and Mrs Hubert Lee Johnson 31 with her one year old daughter Maree Ruth Johnson of Fort Worth.

Dancer Marguerite Evans Drives To Death In Atlanta Crash

Exotic dancer Marguerite Ga lento Evans known as Chil Evans killed herself in a high speed crash on an Atlanta expressway after telling a fellow stripper she planned to ram her car into a brick wall at 90 to 100 miles per hour. She was 30 and left four children.

Drowning Deaths in Teague as Violent Storm Hits State

A mother and her 11 year old daughter drowned when a squall swamped their boat at Teague City Lake on Saturday. Five people from the same boat escaped, with others reporting wind and rain moving into Lubbock and eastern South Plains as storms weakened. No injuries were listed from a Seguin tornado and damage to Malik’s garage and other structures was reported near Childress.

First 1960 Bale Ginned At Snyder

Snyder special report notes the first bale of Scurry County cotton for 1960 with a $100 bonus. Harold Curtis Brown and parents picked 15 acres of irrigated cotton Friday and finished by 10 p.m. after hiring one harvest hand. They found a gin ready late Saturday at the D. V. Mel facility with a small crew rounding up for ginning.
