The Lunar Orbiter in Pasadena will start a television camera mission today to capture 352 photos of nine candidate manned landing sites on the moon’s far side. Formal opening of one of the Southwest’s most modern theaters happens at 8 p.m. at the Winchester theater on 50th Street and Indiana Avenue with premier showings Tuesday and Wednesday. The public premiere tonight follows two preview screenings and features Dr. Zhivago as the initial film with nightly 8 p.m. and 2 p.m. matinees Sundays Wednesdays and Saturdays. The 1000-seat, single-floor domed auditorium offers a large parking area and a drive-through entrance, marking a major addition to Winchester’s entertainment and business life.
Secretary of Agriculture John A. Schnittker and Cotton Producers Institute chair Russell Giffen urged stronger research and promotion to counter man-made fibers. Cecil Fox, longtime Caprock game warden, Boy Scout leader and wildlife lecturer, was honored by the State Parks and Wildlife Department in Lubbock for 22 years 1 month and 23 days of service. Fox arrived in Spur in 1923, later moved to Austin for an interview in 1944, and served under three heads of the game department while educating the public through reptile demonstrations.

Highs mid 70s to 80s, lows upper 60s, winds from the south and southwest 10 to 15 mph. Maximum humidity near 80 percent and sunrise at 6:11 a.m. sunset around 7:31 p.m.
