Jurors rejected a 3000 year term option in the murder case involving defendant Dennis Johnathan Strawn known as Winegarer for the July 2 1971 stabbing death of 51 year old Mrs Sophie Giovanni in Odessa.
Fragmentary diary notes from last April outline an assassination plan targeting President Wallace. The writer references abandoning the effort after considering government action and mentions Kaneel and others involved in the alleged attack and injuries.

A 14 year old boy died after apparently falling from the back of a pickup truck onto a southbound car on University Avenue near 1114th Street in Ralls. The victim J Dee Mayhall was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses said he or balance loss caused the fall while riding on an aluminum ladder against the truck cab. The driver of the southbound car was Donald Wayne Hendon.
U S planes and naval guns bombard Quang Tri as over 2000 South Vietnamese marines prepare to assault the city’s Citadel. Air strikes hit enemy concentrations up north while shelling on the coast targets Bien Hoa Da Nang and surrounding bases with multiple U S destroyers on the gun line.
