Plains farming notes heavy hoppers and grants at PCG meeting
The fourth cotton insect report cites heavy fleahopper infestations in Idalou Lorenzo and Ralls with scattered heavies in Lubbock and Hale counties. Grants totaling 25 000 go to Lubbock Spur Agricultural Experiment Stations and the High Plains Research Foundation with 20 000 for Texas Tech spinning plant work and 7 000 for cotton fertilization studies. An optimistic hog outlook from the National Livestock Producer predicts prices around 15 to 18 as feeding economics improve and sow farrowing declines influence 1961 forecasts.
