OAS Tries to Cool Haiti Dominican Standoff

The Dominican Republic accuses Haiti of aggression for seizing its embassy in Port au Prince and plotting to assassinate the president, issuing a 24 hour ultimatum as Haiti breaks off relations. The OAS forms a five nation fact finding team including Colombia El Salvador Chile Ecuador and the United States to defuse tensions. Expect arrival by U S jet transport.

Reds Launch New Cosmos Satellite

The Soviet Union launched a new unmanned Cosmos satellite, the sixteenth in the series since the program began 13 months ago. It carries instruments for space research ahead of future manned flights, with satellites 14 and 15 launched earlier in April. Tass says the craft are functioning normally, with signals detected at 19 995 megacycles and an orbit inclination noted.

Railway Car Blast Erupts After Wreck in Pennsylvania

Arrest Irks Alabamans Over Murder Charge

Floyd J. Simpson, a rural storekeeper and father of six, was charged with first degree murder in the roadside shooting of Baltimore integration pilgrim William L. Moore near Collbran Alabama. Sheriff Dewey Colvard said formal charges would follow after a warrant signing. Moore, a postman, was killed Tuesday night as tensions ran high in the mill town. Local residents described Simpson as a hard working man despite the charged atmosphere.
