15 Witnesses Called As Trial Opens In Slaying Case
The state puts 15 witnesses on the stand at 140th District Court for Ama dor Salazar 19 charged with the fatal Aug 27 shooting of Calvin Miller 61 at Ohlenbusch Service Station. Photos, a sketch, and a bullet hole shirt were entered as evidence. Miller died Sept 4 after the incident during a claimed armed robbery attempt.

Grants Awarded In Fish Studies
Washington reports seven universities receive two year grants for graduate fishery studies. The package covers tuition fees and living expenses totaling 3000 dollars annually with a 1000 dollar family allowance for married students with children. Universities include Louisiana State University in fishery product technology and Oklahoma State University in limnology.

Texas Tech briefs cover ROTC scholarships and campus events
Two Texas Tech sophomores Jerry Mutual Insurance Co. Tor James W. Maxfield of Roswell New Mexico and James R. Pfluger of Lubbock were injured while working for American Iron The scholarships are awarded on scholastic standing and military performance. Poet laureate William E. Bard will read his poems at 6 p.m. in the Tech Student Union building sponsored by the Poetry Society of Texas and the Texas Folklore Society. Local GOP officials plan a public coffee in Bard’s honor at the Villa Inn from 7:20 to 9 p.m. The Ex-Student Association will sponsor A Happening at the West Texas Museum Association meeting. Texas Tech Day activities include a luncheon at the Lubbock Women’s Club. The Chemistry department will sponsor an exhibit of original prints by famous artists at 10 a.m. The lecture will focus on works by Rembrandt, Durer, Goya, Picasso and Rausschen. Reese AFB will receive $101,000 for construction projects as part of National military funding. Thirty-five Litt Sanders Elementary School students will visit Buffalo Springs Lake park for rides and lunch. Testimony resumes today in a workers’ compensation suit in 99th District Court. Forty-six U C seniors named among the best college teacher prospects by the Woodrow Wilson Foundation.
