Lt. Lloyd H. Hughes, Class 42 J at SAAF, posthumously receives the Congressional Medal of Honor for sacrificing his B 24 mission over Ploesti Romania on August 1 1943. Presentation made at Kelly Field by Lt Gen Barton K Yount to Hughes widow Mrs Hazel Dean Hughes of San Antonio. Eight other crew members perished. two later became POWs. Hughes was born in Alexandria Louisiana and lived in Corpus Christi with parents Mr and Mrs J R Jordan.

Col Jack Jenkins Reported Lost After Raid On France
Col Jack S Jenkins aged 28 is missing in action over France since April 10. He was promoted to colonel in March and recently awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three Oak Leaf clusters. He commanded the 55th Fighter Group in England and led the first American fighters in an attack on Berlin. He attended Texas Technological College and trained at Randolph Field.

The regular monthly meeting of the Lubbock County Tuberculosis Association was held at the Hilton hotel. Attendees included J. T. Trigg, Mrs. R. C. Pace, Curtis Curry, Dr. Ewell Hunt, A. S. Meinecke, Dr. M. I. Ewing, and others. Patch tests in city and county schools totaled 2,455 with 126 positive. a committee of Curry, Boyd, and Dr. Hunt was formed to plan testing of household employees. Lonergan's Attorney Given Jail Sentence
New York April 22 Ed ward V. Broderick counsel for Wayne Lonergan was sentenced to 30 days in jail for contempt of court. He may appeal within a month. Judge John J. Freschi imposed the sentence in the same courtroom where Lonergan was convicted of second degree murder in the death of Patricia Burton Lonergan. Broderick was found guilty on four counts for insolence and wilful defiance at Lonergan's first trial which ended before jurors were selected.

Allied Headquarters reports Maj. Gen. William H. Gill recommended to Australian authorities the Loyal Service Medal for six New Guinea natives for guiding American patrols. Two natives rode with Lt. Clifford Reynolds near Bogadjim, reporting few Japanese left. Reynolds and four men later reconnoitered gun positions firing on Allied patrols.
