Riots at Rusk State Hospital End After 6 Hours
Eighty inmates, all Negroes, rioted at Rusk State Hospital in Texas and held the superintendent and two others hostage for six hours before surrendering to a Texas Ranger. At least 13 were injured. The riot ended after a door step negotiation led by Capt. Bob Crowder, with the hostages freed and weapons dumped on the steps. The inmates complained of lack of recreations and the segregated maximum security buildings.

Polio Shots To Start In Lubbock Tuesday</n>
A charter flight will depart Lubbock at 8 a.m. for Austin to obtain Salk polio vaccine for first and second graders in Lubbock County and 11 neighboring Plains counties. Dr. C A Pigford announced plans for vaccine administration beginning Tuesday with two shots per pupil, funded by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. The vaccine will be refrigerated on return to Lubbock.

Two-Year-Old Rescued After Four Hour Well Plunge
In Aurora Colorado a two year old boy named David Counterman was saved after four hours trapped in an 18 foot deep 10 inch wide water well. Fire crews from Aurora and Lowry Air Force Base dug a parallel shaft and used a power shovel to reach him. David was rushed to Children’s Hospital in Denver in serious condition with shock. His father kept vigil at the hole feeding oxygen and guiding the rescue while his mother awaited news at home.

Latin American Man Shot Dead After Wine Dispute
Thomas Sanchez 47 of Canyon Courts was killed by a .22 rifle during a dispute over wine shares. Frank Esquirdo 37, of the same address, is held after admitting he shot Sanchez when he feared losing his portion. Sanchez died at Methodist Hospital ten minutes after arrival. Esquirdo told officers he acted after threats to cut his throat.

Third Victim Of Train Crash Dies

Floyd Sheriff Probes Grain Theft At Muncie Elevator
Floyd County Sheriff Earl Cooper said he is seeking thieves who have taken 15 000 to 20 000 pounds of white maize from the Muncy Elevator between Floydada and Lockney over the past six weeks.
