Sunny Easter Day Forecast for Lubbock and South Plains

The area should see a warm sun filled day as Easter egg hunters and watchers enjoy bright skies. Saturday’s high near 80 to 84 rising to about 90 in the southern Plains with light southerly winds around 2 mph. Partly cloudy skies possible with little rain expected, mainly in extreme northeast Texas.

Region Dam Leader Dies

A. A. Meredith longtime Cana dian River Project pioneer dies in Borger after a long illness. He served as secretary of the Cana dian River Municipal Water Authority and helped plan a reservoir and pipelines for 11 Panhandle and South Plains cities. The authority’s member cities seek naming the Sanford Dam lake Meredith in his honor. Meredith, a Louisiana native, moved to Texas in 1909 and held key posts in Amarillo Borger Plainview and the Canadian River agency. The Plainview meeting on March 12 honored him and urged the reservoir be named Meredith Lake. Congress will decide on the lake name.

Home Show opens at Coliseum with space exhibits and prizes

The Avalanche Journal reports the Home Show and Trade Exposition starts at 2 p m today at Municipal Coliseum with 86 exhibitors, 144 booths, and 1500 Hawaiian orchids for adult women. Veteran Navy officer James Watson testified at a naval court of inquiry that, while aboard the Skylark, he and Lt. Cmdr Stanley Hecker heard a dull underwater thud on a telephonic link, signaling the Thresher’s breakup seconds before it vanished with 129 crew members during a deep dive in waters about a mile and a half deep.

Cuban exile council weighs release of 22 page resignation letter

The Cuban Revolutionary Council in Miami will meet Monday to decide whether to publish a 22 page resignation letter by Council President Jose Miro Cardona, which allegedly details claims by U S officials on Cuba and a U S invasion plan. The group split from the Kennedy administration after rejecting Miro's resignation amid tensions over anti Castro raids and policy on Cuba. The session also analyzes alleged U S State Department leaks and claims Miro sought 50 million dollars for an invasion force or a leading role in planning a U S invasion.

Snyder Man Critically Injured In Collision
