Easter Journey Ends in Tragedy for Lubbock Family
A 4 year old Lubbock boy, Jessie Lee McDowell, died after darting into traffic along Highway 70, 5.3 miles east of Spur. The child, son of Mr and Mrs J J McDowell Sr, was pronounced dead on arrival at Spur Memorial Hospital. The accident, blamed on a passing car driven by L T Thomas of Rotan, occurred at 11 45 a m Friday. The family was en route to Fort Worth to spend Easter with relatives when the tragedy struck. The boy suffered a fractured skull and services were planned in Ranger and then Killingsworth Funeral Home in Ranger. Friday's fatality total rose to 33 on the South Plains. One other person, Charles Kelly Clements, 54, was hospitalized for observation after a separate area crash.

A 17 year old Georgia honor student identified as Roger Foster confessed to killing two aboard the Dream Girl a Key West charter boat. The victims were owner skipper Douglas Trevor 47 and his son Edward 22. The boy had previously left a blood smeared note claiming insanity. The vessel was found about 20 miles north of the Cuban coast after a Coast Guard search. Dr H A Foster, Roger's father, learned the car linked to the boy had been found and flew to Key West.
