Door 18 Too Small Ball of String Wins Second

Luke Roberts, 86, of Douglas Nebraska, earned second place at the county fair hobby show with a ball of string now supposedly 46 percent miles long in a 36 inch ball. He began saving string four years ago and fears a larger ball may jam the door. An AP Wirephoto accompanies the item.

Industrial Zone Set Hearing On 50th Street Plan

The City Planning and Zoning Commission set a hearing for Tuesday night April 30 at City Hall to settle the 50th Street zoning problem by strip zoning most of the thoroughfare for commercial and semi commercial uses. The panel also approved industrial zoning for a large tract between Yellowhouse Canyon and Loop 289 in northern Lubbock and warned zoning would extend south of the loop and east of College Avenue.
