Woman Dies In Odessa Collision

A California woman Audria Luella Royer, 57, of Twentynine Palms, died at dusk in a two car crash on U S 80 near Odessa. Her traveling companion Matty G. Akin, 79, of Greenville Mississippi, was seriously injured. Odessa residents Al G. Pool, 55, and his son Damon Pool were hospitalized with less serious injuries.

Man Killed On Oil Rig Southwest Of Andrews

John S. Brown age 39 formerly of O'Donnell died on an oil rig five miles west and one and a half south of Andrews. He was a roughneck on the rig floor when a spinning line caused fatal injuries as the crew prepared casing. The justice of the peace declared him dead at the scene.

Mississippi Two Dikes Crumble On Biggest Rampage In 13 Years

The Mississippi River burst through levees in two places on Monday causing widespread flooding across central Illinois and Missouri. An estimated 2,000 people fled homes along the river’s bottomlands as the flood crested and then receded in places, with officials warning the danger could return after a brief lull.

Explosion Kills Man in Austin Chemical Plant Blaze

An explosion at the Quality Chemical plant in Austin killed Buck Bradley and injured no one else. Kenneth E. Harwell escaped. the owners reportedly operated the facility while experimenting on plastic compounds. Roof fragments flew as far as ten blocks, with two nearby buildings damaged before crews contained the fire.
