General Westmoreland Due At LCC Dedication Today

Army Chief of Staff General Westmoreland will dedicate the Mahee Agriculture Science Laboratory at Lubbock Christian College in a 2 PM ribbon cutting during Freedom Preservation Week. A bronze casting by Bill Leftwich will be presented as part of the festivities with remarks by Chas A. Guy and presiding by Dr C L Kay.

South Vietnamese Recapture Fire Base Six Near Laos Border

South Vietnamese troops retook an artillery post near the Laos frontier after two days of heavy fighting. A Saigon spokesman said North Vietnamese regulars lost the base Thursday, with about 200 bodies found around it. US air support, including B52 raids, aided Saigon forces in defending Fire Base Six amid broader border clashes.

Slaton Man Killed in Posey Area Crash

An 88 year old Slaton resident Joe Grabber died after his pickup overturned following a collision with a station wagon two miles south of Posey at County Roads 76 and 31. Jonsgaussacwny Twallah Mote Smith 20 of Lubbock sustained head and facial lacerations and was admitted to Mercy Hospital in satisfactory condition. Highway Patrolman Danny Parrack reported Grabber was northbound on 31 while Smith traveled west on 76. the crash destroyed the pickup front end and overturned the car twice.

Robber steals $50 from Holiday Inn night clerk

A lone gunman entered the Holiday Inn Parkway around 1:15 PM Thursday and escaped with $50 after firing a shot past night clerk Lonnie Ellison. Ellison described a slender bandit wearing a wide brimmed straw hat and a face scarf, who demanded money and left with the bills as officers found a bullet mark and shell fragments at the scene.

Police vote to forgo strike at Lubbock meet
