Disunion and Union loyalty cited in Nashville paper excerpt

The Nashville Tree Whig expresses strong Unionist sentiment despite Southern loyalty to slavery. It denounces nullification and disunion threats, defends the Constitution, and condemns abolitionist moves, while noting Civil War era tensions and foreign interest in Mexican and California slavery policy. The piece also touches on military figures, wartime rhetoric, and economic conditions in 1849 including grain prices and trade prospects.
