The United States cruiser Cleveland was launched in Bath Maine on September 28 in ideal weather with huge crowds. Ruth Hanna, daughter of Mark, used a silver hatchet to cut the cords and broke a bottle of champagne on the bow, followed by an elaborate lunch.

Washington Sept 28 Lieutenant Commander R B Roaney U S N after filing protest against paying alimony concluded discretion was better part of valor and sent to the court a draft of 2250 dollars. The draft is for alimony owed his wife and attorney Sellhausen said Roaney instructed his counsel not to pay unless the court directs commitment. He alleged the draft should be turned over to Mrs Roiney counsel.
Albany September 28 new trial granted to Roland B Molineux who was convicted of murdering Mrs Kate Adams. Court of appeals reportedly unanimous for reversal and will send case back to New York for retrial. Justice Werner of Rochester likely to author the opinion.

Charles Vincent, a noted musician, fell from West Peak in Hubbard Park, plunging 200 feet after slipping. He hung by one ankle in a tree for about four hours before rescue efforts. injuries included multiple broken limbs and a five inch scalp wound. He died at Meriden city hospital hours later.
In Judge Hadley's court this morning John Murphy admitted a previous drunkenness offense and received a three month jail sentence to enforce memory. John McGillicuddy, Josephine Early, and others faced penalties including a year in prison for the latter, with Mrs. Mansfield and son each paying fines. Several youths and men were fined or sent to the state farm or Sherborn prison as cited in the police court proceeding.
Water board meters 426 tenements to curb rising consumption. Annual regular bill for 425 users was 18 132 dollars. first quarter with meters showed 33 900 dollars yearly rate. Second quarter at 30 000 dollars, many bills double prior charges. 189 users under metered rates used less water, while others saw increases prompting a waste inquiry and expected reduction next quarter.

The education committee plans its first meeting next Monday to act on school board communications about more classrooms in Highlands and Lake View Avenue. Mayor Dimon Supt Whitcomb Alderman Badger and Alderman Conlon inspected several sites but took no action. The claims committee will hold its third meeting next Wednesday to address items carried over from the prior meeting.

A concert and stereopticon lecture by Rev George F Kennett is planned for next Wednesday with Miss Gertrude Edmund reader and Miss Ethel Ranger soprano.

At a directors meeting of the Lowell Mumane Society held after summer vacation a vote praised Officer Fitz gerald for his act in rescuing cattle from a burning building during the Whitcomb fire in early August. The officer was not defied by letter of the action.
