Boston, Sept. 18 Two United States officers refused to take charge of Edwin Walkup of Cambridge arrested Sunday night with 23000 dollars in imitation money. They say the staff could not have been passed and know of no statute under which they can prosecute.
Boston. Daniel Conlin was sentenced to 30 months in the house of correction by Judge Aiken in the superior criminal court this afternoon after pleading guilty to perjury in the straw bail case. The indictment charged Conlin with the giving of straw bail.
Hiram mith, a war veteran and former inmate of the Soldiers' Home at oreton, New Haven Conn, committed suicide this afternoon by taking carbolic acid.

Oakes A. Ames president of the Ames corporation and brother of Governor Oliver Ames died in North Easton this morning from heart disease at age 70. He was one of the wealthiest men in the region. The death occurred September 19.

A Lowell man, George Hinchcliffe, 25, employed as a clerk at the Rossmore hotel in Cornwall Ontario, was fatally shot in an accident. Despatch from Boston reports he had a fondness for travel and had lived with Mrs Rouleau, with plans to move to Boston around September 15 for work. Bearers were John Lyons, John Parker, John Hogan, John Greeley, William Dowling and Joseph Lee. Interment followed in the Catholic cemetery under J F O'Donnell's direction.
