In Bradford England an electric car derailed while descending a hill this morning. Fifty six persons were injured and several will die.
The report notes H Norton and Charles Allen losing barns with hay, tools, and wagons. Norton’s loss about 1500 dollars and Allen’s about 2000 dollars. Fred Varney, a Dover merchant, drowned while bathing at York beach this afternoon. A company was rescued in an exhausted condition.
The handicap foursome at Vesper club links Saturday awarded Thorpe and Gage class A winners and Marren and Pearson class B winners for posting the lowest gross and net scores in their divisions. Both couples earned silver medals as prizes.

Mr Michael Harrington of North Chelmsford lost his barn and hen house Sunday afternoon. The barn held five to six tons of hay. The horse and cows were evacuated and wagons saved. Hens survived. Cause unclear possibly lightning. Harrington was milking during the storm. his daughter called him to supper. He discovered the blaze before finishing the meal.
Rev Mr Fisher spoke on universalism and Rev S T Ford preached How to be Beautiful at First Baptist. The sermon urged honoring the body as God made it, argued against Darwinian claims, and urged care for the body as a channel for the spirit. It framed physical beauty as rooted in spiritual growth and character.
At First Universalist church Rev C E Fisher preached on Universalism in its True Light urging the belief that all souls will be saved. He rebutted charges against the faith and criticized views of eternal punishment as incompatible with God’s omnipotence and benevolence.

Rev W A Bartlett spoke on Luther’s life. The Men’s League formed a committee led by Louis Alexander to propose officers and schedule a banquet.
The Immaculate Conception church welcomed Right Rev. Edward P. Allen D D bishop of Mobile for a pontifical high mass. He was aided by Fr Campeau OML and others as deacon sub deacon and master of ceremonies. Pastor Fr Joyce spoke on pride and humility while the choir performed Hayden first Mass and Rossini Stabat Mater. The vesper octave of St Verecunda concluded.
A 30 by 18 foot regulation army tent was erected on the hospital grounds on Saturday for soldier patients. The tent, a gift from trustee Thomas Talbot of North Billerica, sits on a knoll with a view of the Merrimack and aims to aid convalescence. Beds and equipment are provided by Dr. Pillsbury and others.
At a Dracut school committee meeting Miss How ler of Lowell was chosen to teach music and drawing for the coming year. The committee also extended thanks to Miss Clara Dittrich for her excellent music instruction, noting her recent resignation.
John D. S. Baldwin of Lowell was chosen recording secretary of the Second Massachusetts Infantry at its annual dinner and banquet held in Boston on Saturday.
A police court session featured diverse offenders including Mary Stewart jailed for drunkenness and Wm H Fleming sentenced to six months for sleeping drunk in a freight car. Samuel Dyar dealt with a domestic disturbance after his wife vanished, while Isaac Smith and others faced a card playing charge on the Lord's day. A highway robbery case saw three youths held for trial and several others fined for drunkenness.
Charles C. Tasker a former Lowell resident died in Wilkes Barre Pa at 74 after long illness. He was brother in law of Jefferson A Knowles and funeral in Wilkes Barre then burial in Northwood N H. He leaves a wife and daughter Annie M Tasker. Several other deaths and funeral notices follow for Mary O’Brien Georgianna Thomas Ann Maguire and others with details of ages addresses and survivors. Funeral notices list persons and burial sites with Molloy and other undertakers.

Night blooming cereus event at 906 Bridge street celebrated with Hallowell family. Will K Hallowell hosted vocal and instrumental music with cake and coffee. Invitations out for the marriage of Miss Elizabeth Ashworth to Mr Martie Burtt of Lynn, formerly here, later this month. Miss Minnie Leadbetter and Miss Jessie Waterman leave city to serve as army nurses. Leadbetter to Lexington KY hospital, Waterman to New York.
