The president spoke softly in farewell words, “Good Bye All, Good Bye. It is God’s Way. His Will be Done,” as he sank slowly and passed away at 2.15 A.M., leaving sorrowing friends to mourn the tragedy and reflect on the events that led to his death.
Milburn House scenes recount the dying President William McKinley with Cabinet members and family by his side. Mrs McKinley offers comfort as he whispers a final hymn, then fades, while doctors fight to prolong life and officials weigh the transition of power to Roosevelt.
President McKinley died at 2 15 a m after hours of unconsciousness. His last words expressed humble submission to God's will and he faced death with calm dignity alongside his wife. Roosevelt readiness to assume office, possible autopsy, and city guard actions followed amid Buffalo’s unrest.
In Milburn House Buffalo on September 14 doctors voiced strong support for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The President's heart showed puzzling, erratic action from the start, initially blamed on shock, but later attributed to ongoing complications. One physician suggested the original gunshot shock remained the central factor.
