The original house stood 18 years with a $5000 addition added last winter. Valued at about $10,000 with $4000 in furniture. nearly all furniture was saved. Insurance on the building was $10,000.

A Grand Army post member asked Mayor Crowley why veterans are charged 3 for digging graves at Edson cemetery and why lot owners cannot buy hoses to use cemetery water. Cleon L Webster a 32 year old Nashua physician with business and residence at 408 Middles Street was arrested yesterday by Inspectors Laflamme and Allen on a warrant from Harry K Noyes charging him with uttering a bogus check at the Wamesit National bank. He was brought before the court in the afternoon and held without bail for further hearing.
A fire in Dr. Merrill’s mansion at Main and Elm streets Pepperell was battled for half an hour. Residents carried valuables to the lawn while animals were moved from the barn. The L and west wing burned. the house, a historic landmark, was saved. Dr. Merrill and family were away. William Higgins, 172 Lakeview Avenue, fell from a staging at 59 Boylston Street, suffering a severe scalp wound and was sent to St John’s Hospital. Eugene Chapman, 40 Sidney Street, was taken to Lowell Hospital after his right arm was badly lacerated while working at the Lowell Bleachery. The Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows met in Odd Fellows hall Boston with about 400 attendees including 170 candidates. Grand Master Tirrell presided. Nathanel J. W. Fish of Taunton was elected grand master for the coming year. The afternoon approved 22 constitutional amendments and granted duplicate charters for lodges.
