During military manoeuvres near Weimar a pontoon bridge gave way as an infantry regiment crossed. A number of soldiers and trumpeters were drowned or killed by timbers as the bridge collapsed.

A Taunton party comprising city officials Board of Trade and townsmen rode a trolley straight to Nashua in a single day. Thomas H. Connell of Cambridge secures the hospital project at the East Cambridge house of correction for 24000 dollars after bids exceed the 30000 appropriation. The lowest bid was 37940 by Connell who offered to reduce plans to fit funds. The County Commissioners approve the idea and allocate 6000 dollars for hospital furnishings alongside another contract for the county registry of deeds building in East Cambridge.

True Morton of Chelmsford Centre died this morning at his home on Westford Street at age 73. A native of South Bristol Maine, he lived much of his life in Lowell and Chelmsford, working at the Lowell Scale company for 18 years and becoming its senior member in the past seven. He is survived by two daughters, Helen F. of Chelmsford and Grace Wilkins of Somerville. Mrs Morton died in December. He belonged to Oberlin lodge 28 and Wannalandt encampment of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and to the American Mechanics order. He was known for kindness and integrity.
Mrs Ella Frances Emmons dies suddenly at home in Lawrence from heart paralysis. At 6.80 she dined, then suffered chest pain. doctors failed to save her. Age 35 years 11 months 6 days. Born in Lowell, widow of Henry W. Emmons, mother of two. Her father was the late William Gibson. In separate notices, Mrs Rosa Marsh McWilliams, long a city resident, dies in Rockland Mo after two years of illness leaving a young son and family, and Mrs Louisa J Lake dies at her daughter's home in Boothbay Harbor aged 81 leaving a son, a daughter, and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held yesterday and today for Deacon George T. Whitney Melvin C. Peterson Mary Davison Marcella Riley and Patrick Quinn. Whitney buried in Lowell cemetery with C M Hall officiating and church connections noted. Peterson and Davison services at homes and churches with burials in Edson and Catholic cemeteries respectively. Riley buried in Catholic cemetery. Quinn services included solemn requiem mass at St Patrick's with choir directed by RE Faulkner.
Mrs Mary J Judevis of Peabody Massachusetts reports she could eat only soup due to dyspepsia until taking Hood's Sarsaparilla. After finishing a bottle her stomach tolerates substantial food and dizziness ceased, with no further trouble from the condition.

In this city died at 762 Broadway Mrs Louisa J Lake aged 81. Arthur infant son of Arthur and Jane Kelly died at No 5 Bratton avenue on Thursday afternoon aged three months.

Miss May Bailey, Miss Martha Rogers, Miss Rose McLaughlin and the Kenney sisters return from Crescent beach vacation. President George H. Campbell of the Lowell Lawrence and Haverhill Street Railway Co. has battled a peritonitis attack at home in Lawrence. he is improving. The National Association of Manufacturers seeks a vice president for New England with candidates including Col. A. A. Pope, Hon. W. Murray Crane, A. G. Cumnock and Andrew G. Pierce. H. H. Dearborn plans to return to Seattle, noting Seattle business strength and a Northwest boom with Klondike gold draws. Gold finds near Seattle are said to bolster prospects for the region.
