In Puerto Plata Santo Domingo city the capital has declared for Jiminez. Telegraphic postal and railroad communication is restored without censorship nationwide. Provisional government members have left Santiago de los Caballeros for the capital.
In Wilkesbarre Pennsylvania on September 2 a group of five men entering the Seven Colliery for repairs were fired on by strikers. One man was killed and two injured as the mine had been idle due to the strike.
About 150 expert machinists and helpers at Cramp's shipyard quit work citing a demand for a nine hour day and reinstatement of discharged workers. Blacksmiths planned action but were halted by an earlier shutdown. the yard will stay closed through Sept. 11 to accommodate visiting Grand Army veterans. Charles Cramp reports wage increases since January for 1600 workers and says he expects no general strike. A machinists' committee will prevent imported workers from taking their places.
Manchester New Hampshire September 1 Fitchburg railroad placed an order for six passenger engines with the Manchester Locomotive Works the largest order received there in some time and a contract around 0 000 The engines will be of the latest model with a maximum speed of 90 miles per hour featuring monster seven foot driving wheels and 18 inch cylinders Work will begin immediately and be completed as soon as possible
Aboard boarding house at 18 Hurd street a man described as 35, five feet seven, 155 pounds with a light complexion disappeared July 23 after seven weeks. He left money, an accordion, and a letter from Glasgow to a Susan, hinting at sisters in Lawrence and a plan to find work in Lowell. Police and newspaper inquiries yielded no solid leads despite a possible contact with Englishman Lallie Elwell who could not be the same man.

Peter Michas, a Greek employee in the carding room, slipped on a pulley at 9 39 last night while on duty and badly cut his nose and the back of his head. He was transported by ambulance to the corporation hospital.

Frank Reed, disguised in a new suit and soft hat, was recaptured last night after escaping from custody earlier.
