Harry F. May longtime editorial writer for the Boston Advertiser shot himself at the Central House in Ashburnham early Monday morning. He died about ninety minutes later from two bullets to the temple. Doctors deemed him mentally unbalanced and likely planned the act for some time. He, 35, left a widow and three young children. May was born in North Brookfield, educated at Cushing Academy and Yale, and once escaped a Springfield fire in 1889 as the last man to flee the building.
The subject left The Union and worked for other papers. For four years before Aug 1 he was an editorial writer on financial matters at the Boston Advertiser. He contributed Sunday pieces to the New York Sun and wrote for several magazines. He was also known as a poetry writer.

A men’s rally under the High Street associates will be held in the High Street church vestry on Thursday evening. Supper is served free at 7 o’clock. After supper Hon. Geo. A. Marden and Hon. Chas. A. Stott will speak on subjects of special interest. All men connected with the church or society are invited.
