Eight hundred strikers later secretly marched to No 4 Jeddo mines, attacked a man going to work, and the mine continued to operate.
Cambridge reports Judge McIntire will permit probate filing Tuesday for the will of Frances B. Hiller of Wilmington dated April 21. Contested on grounds of alleged unsound mind. Hiller, nicknamed the Lady of the Caskets for two carved caskets made for her and her husband before death.

Joseph Lepp, a blacksmith by trade, was arraigned in police court on a charge of non-support after abandoning his wife and seven children who faced poverty and hunger in a shabby tenement off Dummer Street. He pleaded guilty, saying he left town to take a better wage job with the horse racing circuit. bond set at $200, case continued to Oct. 20. Other defendants included John Crossey, Kate Dimon, Margaret Montague, James F. Ryan, Clarence H. Sprague, and May A. Heroux with various sentences and continuances. the larceny case involved a young girl and was postponed due to notice issues. Complainant is G Beaudry of Hall Street.
A crowded Jackson Hall hosted the first in a series of meetings to promote naturalization among French Canadians. J B D Jacques presided with other speakers including Rev Fr Gagnon Rev Fr Lamothe O M S Arthur Beaucage Alderman John H Beaulieu and several others all delivering speeches in French. Speakers urged French Canadians in Lowell to naturalize to gain full citizenship rights and participate in national and local affairs. The gathering expressed strong enthusiasm and satisfaction with the event.
The police board held a special meeting and issued licenses for common victualler Sarah A. Priestley at 66 Rock Street, Paul McHale at 359 Middlesex Street, and hawker Thomas Powers at 454 Gorham. Dugan & Kitchen er, at 369 and 371 Central Street, received first and fourth class licenses. Fitzgeald & Co. moved their liquor license from 17 Market Street to 17 and 19 Market Street. D. T. Fitzgeald & Co. were granted a transfer. Michael Leonard was appointed unpaid special officer for Mann School. A. C. Gooch of 359 Middlesex Street had their common victuallers license revoked.
Funeral services for Mollie Viola Puffer were held at her parents’ home with scripture, address by Rev. Ford of First Baptist, and a prayer. Hymns by Warren Hamblett and Belle Hutchinson preceded burial in the Shedd Memorial tomb under J. B. Currier’s direction. Pallbearers included Dr. Lyman Newall, Carlton Pearson, William J. Freeman, and Loring L. Trull. Floral tributes were sent to city hospitals after the service.
The 35 piece corps of Lowell was praised as a fine organization with many compliments. The Knox Continentals showcased showy dress, but the Salem News notes the delegation was small and unable to make a strong showing.
