The sub committee on high school met Friday night and, instead of a new officer exam, voted to have the recent examination papers re-examined by three paid military experts. They found errors in the corrections of two papers and acted to be fair to all officers, deeming re-examination wiser than another cadet exam.
Masked robbers halted a midnight express on the Northwestern road between Maple Park and De Kalb Illinois. They fired at the engineer, seized the engine, forced open an express car and safe, and escaped with an estimated $25,000 in cash. The train is part of the continental mail service.
Gile Boungend, about 14, employed on the Lawrence, sustained a scalp wound as he worked on a mule this morning and was sent to Corporation hospital for treatment. Charles Halligan, 15, of 457 Gorham Street, slipped lifting a kettle of boiling water at 10 45 and was badly scalded. he was transported by ambulance to St John's hospital.

The commons committee met Friday night and discussed the past season. It favored no spending on the Fort Hill park rear, while the front needs improvement. Registration for the State election is tepid with 26 new voters. A special aldermen meeting is set for Monday night. No new developments in the smallpox case.

The roomfixes meeting heard a report from the committee that waited on Agent Kerr of Boott Mills. He promised reinstating one man in No. 3 weave room but could not grant broader action. The committee report was accepted and awaits body action.

Admiral George Dewey toured Lowell yesterday afternoon amid spontaneous cheers from about 3000 residents. The crowd, gathered from Boston trains, lined the Middlesex street station as Dewey bowing from the rear car greeted supporters, children, and workers who waved banners and bunting.
A special two car train carries Admiral Dewey and aides from Northfield to White River Junction with crowds at every stop. Governor Rollins of Vermont and Governor Smith of Massachusetts are among officials greeting the party as trains exchange welcomes during the cross state visit.

Daniel Daley, of Fall River, narrowly escaped a Lowell freight hold up Tuesday night. Two armed men ordered his hands up, but companions Thomas Crowell and Matthew Furlong arrived, staged a bold feint, and frightened the highwaymen away. Police found no clues after a thorough search.

Thomas F. Dolan, seen in Dutton Street offering bets on the Shamrock, is at the police station with his mental state under review. Dr. Benner could not determine delirium tremens or permanent insanity after examination. Dolan to be sent to the farm for observation then reexamined.
