A nameless man was arrested on a Salem train station platform for stealing $75 from William F. Fisher. Fisher, at his Essex Street shop, let him wait while another customer was served. the thief fled, but Fisher later spotted him in the smoking car and recovered the wallet and money from his pockets. The suspect, a stranger to Salem, was taken to the station by Officer Lehan.
The Royal Blue line vestibule limited from New York to Washington at 70 mph narrowly avoided wreck south of Glenmore New Jersey. Two driving rod pins broke, steel bars punctured a boiler and bent near a cross tie. Engineer Charles P Campman shut off steam and braked to a stop. passengers included G A Merriam and William L Elkins.

A fatal collision occurred early morning on the Lowell and Lawrence division between two vestibuled cars. Motorman James E. Neagle of Lawrence died soon after hospital arrival. Motorman Henry Hart escaped with minor injuries. The wreck left both vestibules demolished and passengers, including several Lowell residents, recount a chaotic scene as cars were separated and aid rendered.
