Boston on October 10 J Leary 22 of 26 Albion street an employee of an electric lighting company was badly burned and nearly electrocuted while at work in a manhole. He grasped two live wires at once and was knocked down as flesh burned to the bone. A fellow worker knocked the wires away saving his life. He was treated at Emergency hospital and sent home with both hands severely burned, likely out of work for weeks.
Federation of Labor in Holyoke reports the State branch election results with Frank H. McCarthy of Boston chosen as president and re elected as a national delegate. New first vice president Simon J. Griffin of Springfield. second vice president BE Walls of Brockton. third vice president Clement Schuston of Worcester. fourth vice president Charles H Winslow of Fitchburg. fifth vice president Joseph Jackson of Fall River. secretary treasurer Dennis D Driscoll of Boston.
Traders National Bank offers deposit boxes at $5.00 per annum with private rooms and foreign exchange payable in English French German and Swedish money. Savings accounts pay 34 per annum, interest compounded semi annually, with monthly starts. Banking hours are 8 to 4 on weekdays and 8 to 1 on Saturday, rooms at 30 to 46 Middlesex Street and 11 to 24 Post Office Ave.
Remaining Howard supporters in Melrose defend the pastor Rev. Geo N Howard against accusations that a letter influencing defections was stolen from the post office and circulated by an unauthorized person. In New Haven on October 10 Rev. Arthur J. Smith of Grace M E Church and Rev. David J. O’Hearn of Milwaukee’s Catholic cathedral recount a narrow escape from brigands near the Tomb of Polycarp on Mount Pargos outside Smyrna. Armed robbers mobbed them as they fled, warning that the area is plagued by killers and kidnappers of foreigners.

In Providence Rhode Island October 10 Pyam W Perkins of Lowell was acquitted by a jury of embezzling about $1000 while employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company since last winter. The trial concluded yesterday with the jury finding him not guilty.
Lawrence October reports James Ward Jr longtime local printer fled town amid a wage recovery suit. His attorney admitted Ward left without an address, leaving unsettled claims as the former employee seeks payment.
In a Lowell police court session before Judge Hadley several cases were heard. Peter Lenares, a Greek-heritage youth, was found guilty of larceny of $25 from Peter Spudias and sentenced to 10 months in Lowell jail. Henry Higgins, an idle person, was sent to the state farm. Richard Davis, drinking all summer, had his case continued to October 14 for recuperation. William J. Flynn, known for drunken promises, pleaded guilty and received a four months jail term. John O'Brien, alias Patrick O'Hara and Arthur Chandler, denied misidentification and received a state farm sentence. Michael Riley considered his appeal too severe and kept the sentence. A man accused of being a suspicious person at 1 a.m. was released.
Officers and men of Company C held a farewell for Lieutenant Greig before his departure for service. A short drill followed by a spread, cigars, and toasts. Guests included Capt. George HE Worthen and Lieutenants McNulty Kelsey Pearson among others. Greig gave a captured brass cannon from Panay as a gift for salutes on the Fourth of July.
After competitive drill and exam held October 7 and 8 in the high school hall, thirty nine students were named corporals and acting fifth sergeants. The tallest students filled acting fifth sergeant posts, forming the new company assignments for the high school regiment.
Dorcas temple Rathbone Sisters held their regular meeting and an entertainment night featuring readings and music by Mrs Needham Mises Faith Doty and George Harvey plus a short play performed by society members.
