Train Crash Kills Two on Boston and Maine Line
Greenfield Oct 3 A combination express and passenger train No 11 crashed into a switching engine at East Deerfield killing the switcher fireman George F Parmenter and the passenger engines Michael Wedgewood. Wedgewood died instantly with severe burns while Parmenter was mangled. Two others were badly hurt including brakeman Howard P Smith. The rear cars bore the passengers who did not feel the shock. Officials debated blame as to signals or yard neglect with no clear determination. Wedgewood was 40 and survived by a Worcer family. Parmenter lived in Greenfield. Smith 22 from Coney Island.
