Brookline October 2 The second round of the national women's championship proceeded with 16 players under overcast skies and sponge like turf after ten days of rain. Despite poor conditions few spectators, absence of a gallery, and impressive scores marked by close matches as players displayed better golf due to careful shot making.
In New York on October 2 a meeting of general passenger agents and auditors from trunk line railroads discussed creating an interchangeable mileage bureau. The plan aims to issue a single mileage ticket valid across trunk line roads. A sub-committee has settled most details and will report a definite plan at the general trunk line passenger committee meeting on October 28.

Camden New Jersey October 2 The city reservoir near the Delaware river broke this morning releasing about 8 million gallons of water. It flooded cellars along Twenty seventh street and caused other damage. A watchman failed to open a valve as water rose and the embankment failure washed away earth. Repair costs are estimated at 25000 dollars.
In SuMeld Connecticut on October 2 Clarence Lamberton ten years old died from a gunshot wound received while hunting in the woods yesterday with John Barrett twenty five. A shot from Barretts gun struck Lambertons thigh severing the leg and requiring amputation near the body. The medical examiner ruled the shooting accidental.
London October meeting saw Rising Glass capture the Jockey Club Stakes for three and four year olds over one mile and three quarters at Newmarket. Temple More trailed Ard Patrick, which finished third amid a sharp field and notable losses.

In Gorham Street courthouse Judge Harmon presided over the probate court session. The sole case Mary Dodge versus Lyman Dodge sought separate maintenance. The defense showed Mr Dodge, 63, cannot work due to medical infirmity. The judge denied the petition. Dodge veteran of Civil War injured in service, separating from wife for 25 years. Morrison for petitioner, Donahue for respondent.
Members of the commandery C Loyal Legion in Portland took a trolley ride and had a luncheon at Riverton park. The session closed with a banquet last night led by Gen. C P Mattocks commander of the Maine commandery. Speakers included Gen. Schofield Gen. J L Chamberlain Mayor F E Boothby Gen O O Howard Gen Sheldon C Connor and Gen Alex Webb.
