Hazleton Pa Navy 20 The Cranberry and Crystal Ridge collieries owned by A Pardee Co settled today as workers agreed to sign an unwritten promise not to interfere with non union men and will resume Monday. Three accused activists remain sidelined while Coxe Bros works seek a settlement plan.
Frank A. Mc Hugh of New York reportedly killed by leaping from a window on a Southern railway passenger train near Spartanburg South Carolina yesterday. He was linked with a large contracting firm in New York and a well known Catholic club member with no known illness prompting the trip.
Vincennes Ind Nov 20 a man believed to be the assailant of two white women in Sullivan and Knox counties Tuesday was captured at Lawrenceville Illinois. The suspect was shot three times before surrendering Lemon husband of one victim traveled to Lawrenceville with a party of friends.
A. L. Col dna, general manager of the Smugeler mine at Pandora near Telluride, was fatally wounded by an unknown assailant who fired through the office window. Coldna had led the mine during the 1901 strike when a riot left several dead.
Mra Lena Shattuck sustained a severe cut to her left forearm after a window sash punctured it while exiting through a piazza window at her residence on Canada Street. She received nine stitches at the Emergency hospital. Montie Leavitt, a plumber’s assistant, also suffered a hurt left hand from a hammer strike in a separate incident and was taken to the hospital. A job ad seeking clerical workers appeared in Box 174, Lowell.
New York reports a fierce rate fight between rival steamship lines plying to Cape Town and other South African ports. A ton of general cargo now costs $2.43 to ship, cheaper than transporting half a ton of potatoes from the Carolinas to New York. St John N B Nov 20 A meeting in this city Wednesday set the stage for recapitalization of the Alexander Gibson Railway and Manufacturing company of Marysville York county by J F Stairs and associates of Nova Scotia. Bonds preferred and common stock aggregating over 6 million dollars will be issued with Gibson as president and directors including F J F Stairs F E Harris Colonel McLean and other Nova Scotia financiers. Securities will be listed on the Montreal stock exchange. The company will own and operate Canada Eastern railway cotton mills at Marysville and lumber and grist mills at multiple points owning 200000 acres of timber in Nashwaak valley and elsewhere.
George J. Gould, Henry C. Frick and other capitalists in New York Philadelphia and Pittsburg seek to establish an exclusive summer resort on Two Mile Beach Island three miles north of Cape May City New Jersey. They will apply to the New Jersey riparian board for seven and one half miles of waterfront rights and begin work as soon as secured.
