Hong Kong dispatches state there is no truth to reports of an internal explosion damaging the cruiser Baltimore in Manila. The auxiliary cruiser Zafire reached Manila at midnight, and says Dewey is short of provisions and ammunition.
A Kingston Jamaica telegraph report, unconfirmed, says Admiral Schley entered Santiago harbor and destroyed Cervera’s fleet, per a special to the Evening Telegram. The claim, dating from Kingston, remains unverified in New York dispatches.
Col Wardwell and Mayor Malster’s secretary received a letter from Col Charles F Woodward with the 6th Massachusetts at Camp Alger Falls Church Va praising Baltimore’s ovation last Saturday.
