Pike Held On Charge After Self-Defence Claim
Otis H. Pike aged 70 was held for hearing May 29 on a charge of shooting his son-in-law John Markway at Lynn. Pike says he fired in self defence after Markway, who had been drinking, attacked him with a stove poker and threatened to fire. Man Dies After Streetcar Accident Near Smiths Corner
Eugene Sweeney of Lawrence was killed when a Boston and Northern streetcar traveling from Lawrence to Lowell lurched at a sharp turn near Smiths Corner and threw him from the car. He had been in Lawrence to see the May procession and leave his two children, who are in an orphan asylum in Lawrence. He died later at Lawrence General Hospital after the accident between 7 and 8 o'clock yesterday evening. The body was identified by Michael F. Rowan of 33 Merrill Street.
